            Ceramic Tile Layers (Updated January 2017)
             
            Ceramic tile layers install ceramic mosaic quarry marble tile and decorative tiles. 
             
			Length of Apprenticeship:
             
            Four years. Apprentices begin by attending a mandatory, unpaid eight-week pre-apprentice session. Apprentices receive on-the-job training five days a week. Apprentices also attend school for eight hours two days per month from September through May. 
			 
			Wage Information:
             
            0 to 1000 hours of on-the-job training: 50% of journeypersons wage 
			1001 to 2000 hours of on-the-job training: 60% of journeypersons wage 
			2001 to 3000 hours of on-the-job training: 65% of journeypersons wage 
			3001 to 4000 hours of on-the-job training: 70% of journeypersons wage 
			4001 to 5000 hours of on-the-job training: 75% of journeypersons wage 
			5001 to 6000 hours of on-the-job training: 80% of journeypersons wage 
			6001 to 7000 hours of on-the-job training: 85% of journeypersons wage 
			7001 to 8000 hours of on-the-job training: 90% of journeypersons wage

			Basic Requirements:
             
            Must be at least 18 years old. 
			Must have a high school diploma or GED. 
			Must take and pass an aptitude test. 
			Must take and pass an oral interview. 
			Must take and pass a drug test. 
			 
			Working Conditions:
             
            Ceramic tile layers work both inside and out. 
			 
			Recommended Preparatory Classes:
             
            Mathematics, geometry, shop and blueprint reading classes. 
			 
			Abilities:
             
            Must be able to withstand working on your hands and knees for long periods of time. 
			Must be able to lift heavy objects.
			 
			Work Experience:
             
            Previous construction experience could be beneficial but is not necessary for acceptance. 
			 
			Entry Process:
             
            Complete application at the office. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 and 2:30. 
			Take and pass aptitude and drug tests. 
			Applicants receiving the top scores will receive an interview. 
			A combination of the aptitude test and the oral interview will determine an applicants rank. 
			The highest-ranking applicants will be accepted first.
